The Old Course is a must for all avid golfers. From the road hole to the Swilcan Burn Bridge, St. Andrews just exudes the history and tradition of the game of golf. Tee times for 2011 are sold out, but by acting now you can ensure that the Old Course will be part of your 2012 golf vacation to Scotland. There are two ways that you can secure a tee time at the Old Course in St. Andrews. The first is the ballot (lottery), which is the most cost-effective way to play the Old Course, but which offers no guarantee of success. The second option is to buy a vacation package which includes three nights’ accommodation, three rounds of golf (guaranteed Old Course time), lunch and dinner. This adds approximately £1200 to the cost, but guarantees the Old Course tee time. The average cost for a three night package in the summer season is $3200 per person.
