Golf has been played at Leven Links Golf Club since 1846, making it one of the oldest clubs in the world. It has a unique landscape of parallel dune ridges that provides the ideal setting for links golf. The slopes and undulations of the terrain are used throughout the golf course, including the fairways that were molded from the valleys created by the dunes. The prevailing winds that blow through the course are often another challenging factor that is added to the game. The first four holes, all par 4s, play long but as the holes continue they become more up-and-down. The golf course opens with a tricky hole where the green sits on a ridge plateau and it finishes with what some have boasted is one of the best finishing holes in the country. It is another difficult par 4 with a burn stretching across the front of the green.
